As I grow older my perspective on gifts has changed quite a bit from those childhood years filled with long lists of what I want. I love giving and receiving but at the end of the day, I am grateful for friendships and the prayers, support and comfort of others. I believe we all have the opportunity to give the perfect gift. The gift of ourselves and the unconditional love and service that we can share with friends and even perfect strangers.
A few years back I was particularly challenged financially and was searching for a gift for a special friend.
I found it … a book called The Gift Of Nothing. It was $15.00. Just the right price but even more, just the right message.
Here is the text from the last few pages:
“There’s nothing here” said Earl
“Yes”, said Mooch. “Nothing…”
“but me and you”
So Mooch and Earl just stayed still
and enjoyed nothing
It might not appear to be profound, but for me it says it all.
The holidays are about friends, family and festivities … and gifts. God’s perfect Gift arrived without ribbons and bows but instead the gift of love for the world shared by a father who sent his son Jesus Christ.
We can all #ShareTheGift not only today but every day.
